Today (22 September 2026), at 09:30 AM, at Conference Room 1 (Floor 1A) of the Sivatel Bangkok Hotel, Mr. Natt Krutsut, TAT Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, signed an MOU titled "Elevating Thailand's Low-Carbon Tourism through Energy Efficiency Promotion." The agreement involves four partner agencies: the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), the Department of Tourism, the Thai Hotels Association (THA), and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). This collaboration aims to propel the Thai tourism sector toward low-carbon standards by enhancing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative aligns with the 2027 Thai tourism strategic direction, which prioritizes environmental sustainability alongside systematic cooperation among partner agencies.

Mr. Natt Krutsut stated that The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) places great importance on driving Thai tourism toward balanced and sustainable growth, particularly as global tourists become increasingly aware of environmental impacts and incorporate sustainability factors into their travel decisions. This collaboration aims to link energy data from business operators with carbon footprint assessments via the CF-Hotels platform, while simultaneously raising awareness of low-carbon tourism among environmentally conscious travelers. TAT is confident that systematic cooperation between the public sector, the energy sector, and the hotel industry can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from electricity consumption in the tourism sector by 1.310 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e) an impact comparable to planting forests capable of sequestering 93,000 million tonnes of carbon through the CF-Hotels platform.

Mr. Natt added that this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aims to encourage over 5,000 hotels nationwide to adopt the EnPI and CF-Hotels systems for data assessment and collection. This initiative seeks to establish a comprehensive energy and carbon database for the tourism sector, which will serve as a foundation for monitoring and analyzing greenhouse gas emissions from hotel operations. It also aims to enhance the energy efficiency of Thai hotels and facilitate access to financial resources such as soft loans and green loans enabling operators to make tangible investments in energy efficiency. Under this MOU, the TAT’s role involves supporting carbon footprint assessment tools for hotels and accommodations via the CF-Hotels platform and promoting energy efficiency to help reduce energy costs for these establishments. Additionally, the initiative aims to elevate hotel standards to meet international benchmarks such as Green Hotel certification, GSTC standards, and sustainability awards.

Mr. Natt emphasized that during the initial phase, the five participating agencies will pilot an "Energy Model Hotel" project involving 80 hotels across 10 provinces: Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Samut Songkhram, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Phuket. Participating hotels will undergo Energy Performance Indicator (EnPI) assessments and energy gap analyses, followed by the design of tailored energy-efficiency measures and performance monitoring based on Measurement and Verification (M&V) principles. TAT anticipates that this collaboration will foster low-carbon hotels and sustainable tourism through systematic cooperation among partners. Operating under a five-year framework (2026–2031), the initiative seeks to drive Thailand toward its 2050 carbon neutrality goal while reinforcing the "Amazing Thailand" image as a high-quality, socially responsible tourism destination.
