Today (12 Feb) 1:00 PM at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, a prospective MP on the Bhumjaithai Party's party list, addressed the calls for a recount in Suphan Buri province. He stated that it depends on the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) and the administrative authorities. Representatives from political parties are already observing the election results at the polling stations. Therefore, if a recount is desired, it must follow the procedures and authority of the ECT and may involve the courts. He was unsure whether, after 3-4 days post-election, the court would need to issue an order. He emphasized that everything must be done within the legal framework and regulations, with the authorized officials making the decision. As he is directly involved, he declined to comment further.
“Ultimately, regardless of differing opinions, the same standards apply to all polling stations and constituencies. Whether it’s the ECT or the courts, the same standards must be applied,” Mr. Varawut said.
Regarding his post-election political position, Mr. Varawut confirmed that he had not negotiated for a ministerial position from the beginning. He expressed his happiness at joining the Bhumjaithai Party, noting that their policies align with his work and that the focus is on strengthening the party. His future direction will depend on the party leader. And the executives will come in to discuss and clarify things beforehand.
