Today, (12 February, 2026) Sonthiya Sawasdee, political activist submitted a letter to The Election commission of Thailand (ECT), requesting that ECT conform with the Constitution on Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives. (section 140) , which requires that individuals who want to dispute or verify a recount must be eligible voters in that constituency, or political party fielding candidates in that constituency.
Following the constituency 1 case in Chonburi province, which he claimed did not follow the regulations,he urged the ECT proceed the opening the ballots for recount to punish all those who were involved for breaking the organic law. He opposed the protest, which cursed delay and disruption and maintained his innocence, pointing out that the election results show the unrespectable decision of 52,000,000 votes.
“Today, Thai people realize that the recent general election involved vote buying and need a recount. As such, the entire Thai people will reimburse the consequences of whatever happens in the future and possibly leading to corrupt government" Sonthiya stated.

When asked if a political party was behind the protests or not, Sonthiya responded that they needed to properly identify themselves and political running candidates in such constituencies have their rights to take an action if there are any difficulties or irregularities in the general election. He encouraged that it's rights of those people must not compromise the right of the ECT.
Sontiya pointed out that it’s not appropriate to claim ignorance of the law after having committed an offense. He mentioned to intellectuals in Chonburi province who were protesting saying that they must accept the effects of their behavior and also raised concern about the possibility of recount. Where will the remaining 8.7 billion baht come from ? and how will it be distributed ?

Meanwhile, after he talked with the press, a man from the public tossed bags of fermented fish sauce in front of the Election of Commission of Thailand building, expressing that they were disappointed with ECT’s apparent lack of transparency. He urged that the ECT should be a trustworthy organization for the public. Following this, police officials escorted him to the Thung Song Hong police station.
