Today (30 March 2026) at 4:10 PM at Chong An Ma, Hill 677, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Secretary of the Royal Thai Army and Head of the Army Public Relations Center, stated in an interview that the Chong An Ma area is of high significance, making it a focal point for both Thailand and Cambodia, as well as a subject of great public interest. He noted that after the first round of clashes, many questioned whether Thai forces could secure Chong An Ma, as time had run out and the terrain made operations extremely difficult.

Major General Winthai further explained that during the second round of clashes, Thai soldiers prioritized seizing control of high ground at Hill 677. Once secured, they proceeded to take control of Hill 500, which subsequently allowed them to dominate the lower surrounding areas. Bringing the media to the site today was intended to provide a clear understanding of the actual situation—specifically how "commanding heights" determine tactical advantage.

Regarding the hardships of the operation, Major General Winthai believed that every area presents its own unique challenges. The most critical factor is reaching the "advantageous terrain" or "commanding heights" before moving into the plains. Addressing the possibility of a third round of clashes, he stated that based on current intelligence, Thailand occupies strategic positions ideal for military operations. The current environment does not suggest a high risk of another confrontation, although some Cambodian troop adjustments have been observed, which do not currently pose a threat to the Thai side.

When asked about reports that Cambodian soldiers had been pushed back by several kilometers, Major General Winthai stated that because the Cambodian forces were in unfavorable positions without adequate cover, they were forced to retreat to a safer distance. This makes direct confrontation unlikely at present. Currently, Thai forces have successfully secured 100% of the Chong An Ma area, particularly the critical high points of Hill 677 and Hill 500.
