Today (April 21, 2026) at 7:30 AM, at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) Yotschanan Wongswasdi addressed the PM2.5 problem, stating that it doesn't need to wait for the Cabinet meeting because communication is ongoing. The Prime Minister has spoken with each minister, urging them to perform their duties to the best of their ability. As the Deputy Prime Minister overseeing the northern region, he has established networks to coordinate and will provide assistance if needed. The MHESI is acting within its budget and providing guidance and knowledge to enable people to implement solutions independently. The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand has posted guidelines on how to make relevant equipment. Yesterday (April 20, 2026), the Prime Minister and several relevant ministers visited Chiang Mai to investigate this issue.

Mr. Yotschanan further stated that the dust problem is not limited to Chiang Mai but also affects Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phrae, Phayao, and the central region. He affirmed that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) will assist all affected citizens. His visit to the area was to monitor the situation, assess needs, and provide encouragement. A war room will be continuously monitoring the situation, as there is a network already handling this matter. It is also crucial to provide support and mental well-being for volunteers.
When asked whether cooperation with neighboring countries would be necessary to address this problem, Mr. Yotschanan said that the MHESI analyzes the dust originating from each area. Some areas, such as border regions, are indeed experiencing this problem, while others are manageable. Actions will certainly be taken, and those directly responsible have already begun.
