Today (April 21, 2026) at 9:40 AM, at Government House, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Industry, stated that the Ministry of Industry focuses on promoting industrial growth alongside environmental protection, especially efficient energy use. Recently, he instructed the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) to accelerate the implementation of TIS standards for energy efficiency. This will provide guidance for manufacturers to produce quality products and help reduce energy costs for the public.
Mr. Varawut further stated that data from TISI shows there are already 40 energy efficiency standards established, divided into 5 mandatory standards and 35 general standards. The majority are household electrical appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, rice cookers, and welding machines, as well as light bulbs, lighting equipment, construction materials, electric vehicles (EVs), electric motorcycles, hybrid cars, and other products such as window film and thermal insulation.

“The Ministry of Industry, through the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), is also injecting incentives through fee exemptions to encourage entrepreneurs to develop energy-efficient products. Currently, 119 entrepreneurs have received 235 licenses. Another new measure, ‘giving an edge’ in government procurement, is being discussed with the Comptroller General's Department to promote energy-efficient products with TISI certification as the ‘first choice’ in government procurement, according to the Ministry of Finance regulations of 2017. This will help expand the market for energy-efficient products significantly,” said Mr. Varawut.
Mr. Varawut added that, simultaneously, factories are being upgraded with the international standard ISO 50001. TISI has established 15 other energy management system standards, such as TIS 50001, to enable industrial factories to manage energy within their organizations for maximum efficiency. Currently, over 70 organizations have received certification.
