Today (27 April 2026), at 3:30 PM at the Army Headquarters, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Army Spokesperson, held a press conference on the results of the army's direct reporting unit meeting. He stated that General Phana Klaewplodthuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Army, emphasized the need to closely monitor the border situation and maintain vigilance. He stressed the continuation of ongoing missions such as improving fortifications, patrolling, and collecting intelligence data deemed useful for area security. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of all personnel in all units.

Maj. Gen. Winthai added that regarding the overall situation between Thailand and Cambodia, both sides are prepared and maintaining readiness within their respective sovereign territories. While no significant provocations have occurred in the past month, there have been sporadic incidents that could be considered provocative, the intentions of which are unclear. Coordination teams are still able to communicate effectively, and the Royal Thai Army remains prepared and vigilant.

Regarding Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's statement that Cambodia does not wish to fight, Major General Winthai said that Cambodian intelligence has not indicated any worrisome stance. He noted that current communication issues may cause public concern, but overall, military intelligence does not suggest any threat to Thailand. He emphasized that media reports and statements cannot be considered primary indicators of a potential situation; only military and security intelligence information should be considered.

When asked about China's offer to act as a mediator between Thailand and Cambodia, Major General Winthai stated that, from an international perspective, China neither supports nor discourages the use of force, but according to courtesy, it does not prohibit or obstruct the use of force. It remains a matter for the two countries to decide.

Further inquiries regarding the situation in the area, Major General Winthai said that Cambodia has moved its bases closer to Thailand in some areas. He stated that after the clashes, Cambodia retreated to a new area. When the situation was no longer concerning, they moved their troops closer, but this has not yet affected border security or led to any military operations. He explained that, tactically, Cambodia, having moved to a new area, will need to adjust and find suitable cover and positions. They are unlikely to encroach on areas controlled by Thailand.

Colonel Richa Suksuwanon, Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army, added that regarding compensation for soldiers injured, killed, and disabled in the two clashes, the 10 million baht paid in full for the first clash has been disbursed. The second clash is currently in the official process, and the Royal Thai Army is closely monitoring the situation. He confirmed that the Army has received its compensation in full and that commanders have visited the area to provide assistance and ensure that all rights are fully met.
