Today (May 7, 2026), at the Parliament, Mr. Korrawee Prissananantakul, Ang Thong MP from the Bhumjaithai Party and Chairman of the Government Whip, clarified the status of the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) Bill. He addressed recent misinformation and attacks against the party regarding legal points—specifically the claim about granting 99-year land leases to foreigners—which have caused public misunderstanding. He confirmed that the Cabinet did not certify the original version of the SEC Bill proposed by the party in the previous parliamentary session.

Mr. Korrawee emphasized that the Landbridge project and the SEC Bill are separate matters. Regarding the Landbridge, the Prime Minister has assigned Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, to complete a comprehensive data study within 90 days.

As for the SEC Bill, although the original draft will not proceed, the Bhumjaithai Party and its Southern MPs are preparing to introduce a new piece of legislation aimed at enhancing economic opportunities in the South. The goal is to drive economic growth in the southern provinces to a level comparable to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). He concluded by stating that the party respects the Cabinet's authority and believes they have considered the matter thoroughly.
