Today (May 12, 2026), Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Government Spokesperson, addressed the controversy regarding the 2026 World Cup broadcasting budget. She confirmed that today’s Cabinet meeting did not consider or approve 1.3 billion baht in contingency funds as rumored. Instead, the Cabinet merely "acknowledged" the appointment of the Public Relations Department (PRD) as the lead agency to coordinate the broadcasting efforts.

Ms. Ratchada emphasized that this operation will not rely on the national budget, ensuring there is no impact on taxpayers during the current economic crisis. The PRD already has a strategic plan for sourcing funds and will provide a formal clarification on the financial origins and broadcasting details once coordination is finalized. She urged the public not to worry, stating that the government is working to ensure Thais can enjoy the World Cup without distorting public funds, and expects to share "good news" soon.
