Today (20 October 2026) at 9:05 AM at Government House, Mr. Paradorn Prissananantakul, the minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, spoke to reporters regarding the government’s proposal for a three-day no-confidence debate. He explained that a special Cabinet meeting is scheduled for October 26, 2026, while October 27–29 are set aside for the no-confidence debate, with the vote to take place on October 30. Following the vote, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has overseas commitments from October 30 to November 1. On November 2, the prime minister is scheduled to preside over the opening of the International Horticultural Exposition in Udon Thani province an event the entire cabinet will attend, with an official cabinet meeting to follow on November 3. Consequently, the Cabinet is unable to accommodate a no-confidence debate during this period, and the Prime Minister has further overseas engagements scheduled for the following week, attending the APEC Economic Leaders' Summit in 2026, which leaves only that specific window of time available.
Mr. Paradorn added that a meeting with the three-party whips is scheduled for this afternoon, which he will attend personally. He intends to explain the necessity behind the government’s decision to allocate three days for the no-confidence debate clarifying that this is not out of any fear of scrutiny but rather due to the prime minister's existing commitments. Pushing the debate into mid-to-late November would cause an undue delay, failing to address the situation in a timely manner or meet the opposition’s desire for an expedited no-confidence debate.
When asked whether it might be possible to reschedule the debate for late November to accommodate the opposition’s request for a five-day session, Mr. Paradorn noted that a five-day duration would be difficult to agree upon, as it has no precedent and would likely be excessive for the issues at hand. He urged against framing the discussion simply as a dispute over “three days versus five days,” suggesting instead that the focus should be on the substance of the debate and the established parliamentary conventions regarding the specific number of hours allocated to each side.
Mr. Paradorn further explained that the next steps once the House formally submits the motion will involve scheduling the no-confidence debate, for which the Cabinet will be consulted regarding their available time. This matter will likely be discussed in the Cabinet today. In principle, we are emphasizing the “3+1” framework: the no-confidence debate will take place from October 27–29, 2026, with the vote scheduled for October 30, 2026. This proposal will be submitted to the House for acknowledgment and further deliberation.
