(SAP NEWS – Ratcha Piyathammadhaj) Bangkok authorities have moved swiftly to address the road collapse in front of Vajira Hospital on Samsen Road, Dusit district, which occurred on September 24, 2025. The incident took place within the construction zone of the MRT Purple Line South extension near Vajira Hospital Station, causing road surface subsidence, damage to a major water pipe, and water leakage into the station area.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt explained that the collapse was caused by soil subsidence at the tunnel-to-station connection point. Authorities immediately shut off water and power in the area to prevent further risks and secure the site.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), and Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) worked together to implement seven urgent safety measures: (1) shut off the water supply and provide alternative water distribution to residents, (2) cut off electricity and nearby power lines, (3) seal the tunnel leak to stop soil flow, (4) assess the structural safety of surrounding buildings, (5) install monitoring systems and CCTV cameras around the site, (6) inspect major nearby structures, and (7) coordinate with police for traffic management.
Vajira Hospital announced a temporary suspension of outpatient services for two days to ensure safety for patients and staff. Inpatient services remain fully operational, with BMA-affiliated hospitals available to accommodate outpatients during this period.

Governor Chadchart stressed the concerns about potential rainfall, which could increase water inflow and worsen soil erosion. A dedicated response team has been set up to monitor weather conditions and take preventive action if necessary.
While three vehicles sustained damage, no injuries were reported. The affected area has been declared off-limits to the public for safety reasons.
BMA and the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) have set up an on-site command center to manage the situation and will hold daily progress briefings at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Governor Chadchart reiterated that “public safety and structural integrity are our top priorities.”
