(SAP NEWS – Ratcha Piyathammadhaj) On September 29, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., Anutin Charnvirakul Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, presided over a flag-raising and national anthem ceremony at the Government House in commemoration of Thai National Flag Day. The annual event, observed on September 28, marks the 108th anniversary of the introduction of the tricolor flag as Thailand’s national flag during the reign of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI).
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers and cabinet members, including Borwornsak Uwanno, Ekniti Nitithanprapas (Finance Minister), Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn (Transport Minister), Capt. Thammanat Prompao (Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister), Suchart Chomklin (Natural Resources and Environment Minister), and Sopon Saram. Also present were Ministers attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, senior government officials, and staff from the Government House.
Thai National Flag Day was established to foster national pride and honor the benevolence of King Vajiravudh, who officially granted the tricolor flag (Trairanga) as the national flag on September 28, 1917. The government designated September 28 as National Flag Day in 2017.
The tricolor flag carries symbolic meaning as described in King Vajiravudh’s royal composition “The Symbol of the Tricolor”: red represents the blood sacrificed for the nation, white signifies the purity of Buddhism and the Triple Gem, and blue symbolizes the monarchy. Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the people of Sisaket for their support of the Bhumjaithai Party candidate in the recent by-election, and affirmed his government’s readiness to deliver its policy statement before Parliament later in the day.
