On October 27, 2025, reports confirmed that the Border Guard Force (BGF) a Karen militia allied with the Myanmar military, carried out another demolition operation targeting buildings within the Chinese-backed KK Park special economic zone in Myawaddy, Kayin State. The incident, marking the fourth round of crackdowns, occurred on the evening of October 26 near Eing Ji Myang village, approximately 500 meters from the Thai-Myanmar border. The powerful explosions and ensuing fires prompted a mass escape of foreign workers and residents, who fled across the Moei River into Thai territory.

The blasts had cross-border impacts, with debris, including galvanized steel and concrete fragments, scattering into Ban Mae Ku Mai Tha Sung village, Moo 9, Mae Ku subdistrict, Mae Sot district, Tak province. Five local houses sustained minor damage to roofs, bathrooms, and electric poles, though no injuries or fatalities were reported.
As of October 27, Thai authorities recorded 1,525 people crossing the border to seek refuge, comprising 1,275 men and 250 women from 28 different nationalities. The largest groups were from India (482), China (193), Vietnam (135), and Ethiopia (133). Most were believed to be workers associated with operations inside KK Park who fled during the military’s ongoing clearance campaign.

Lieutenant General Worathep Boonya, Commander of Thailand’s Third Army Area, stated that the number of border crossers may continue to rise if Myanmar’s operations persist. He said Thai authorities are coordinating a joint response plan with relevant agencies to manage the temporary sheltering of refugees. He also clarified that the incident involved demolition explosives, not drone strikes as rumored. Discussions at the Thailand-Myanmar Township Border Committee (TBC) level are ongoing to prevent further incidents and ensure adherence to humanitarian and human rights principles.
