On November 18, 2025, at Government House, Minister of Tourism and Sports Attakorn Sirilatthayakorn and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow addressed the recent controversy surrounding a Thai influencer who filmed himself dancing and removing clothing in Japan, behavior widely criticized as inappropriate and disrespectful to local norms.
Attakorn acknowledged that the incident “certainly affects the image of Thai tourists,” emphasizing that any negative behavior abroad inevitably reflects on the country. While such actions fall under individual rights, he stressed that Thais traveling overseas must be mindful of the host country’s cultural expectations and regulations. He noted that the ministry has consistently worked to engage international partners to prevent generalized negative perceptions of Thai travelers. He also expressed a personal wish for Thais to consider traveling domestically when possible.
Foreign Minister Sihasak, speaking at the central hall of the Santi Maitri Building, reiterated that travelers must follow local customs and laws wherever they go, particularly in Japan, a society known for its strict adherence to order. He stated that the influencer’s actions undeniably tarnished Thailand’s reputation and expressed hope that the incident would not escalate into broader consequences for Thai travelers.
Regarding calls for Japan to revoke the influencer’s passport or impose a permanent entry ban, Sihasak said the matter rests entirely with Japanese authorities and is considered an issue concerning the individual alone. He added that Japan is expected to proceed in accordance with its own legal framework.
Both ministries reaffirmed that Thailand has continuously promoted awareness among outbound Thai travelers to respect foreign cultures and comply with local laws. They also emphasized ongoing efforts to mitigate any negative repercussions on the overall image of Thai tourists and the country.
