On 10th September 2025, Violent protests erupted in France over public discontent with President Emmanuel Macron and his budget-cutting plans.

The unrest coincided with the first day of Sébastien Lecornu as the new Prime Minister, replacing François Bayrou, who was ousted after losing a vote of confidence in parliament over his widely criticized debt-reduction plan.

The “Block Everything” movement began circulating on social media in May 2025, initially led by right-wing groups. It has since expanded to include left-wing and far-left factions, all united in opposition to Macron’s budget policy, which they argue disproportionately affects the poor.

On Wednesday, protesters across the country blocked roads, set fires, and clashed with police. According to Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, over 200,000 people took part in the demonstrations. His ministry reported more than 450 arrests, hundreds held in custody, dozens of injured officers, and over 800 incidents of unrest, ranging from rallies to setting fire.

The movement is expected to escalate, with a nationwide general strike and mass protest planned for September 18th, backed by trade unions from across France.
