(SAP News - Sukritta Tangteerawan)On 18th September 2025, at 11:27 AM at the Parliament, Mr. Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People’s Party and Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, gave an interview to the press, addressing criticism that "the People’s Party is merely a scaffold for the Bhumjaithai Party."
Following the People’s Party's decision to vote for Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul as the new Prime Minister, there has been a wave of both positive and negative public reactions. One of the most prominent criticisms is the perception that the People’s Party is serving as a "scaffold" for the Bhumjaithai Party to ascend to the Prime Minister role.
Mr. Natthaphong responded to this issue, stating, “I affirm that the People’s Party is not a scaffold for anyone. Once the new government begins its duties, the People’s Party is ready to fully exercise the parliamentary mechanisms for oversight. The first platform for this will be the policy declaration in Parliament. If there is cause to believe that Mr. Anutin's government is not adhering to the MOA, we are prepared to use all available mechanisms for scrutiny.”
At the same time, Mr. Natthaphong noted that it is still too early to determine whether the Bhumjaithai Party has violated the MOA regarding efforts to become a majority government. He stated that such matters will ultimately be decided by voting outcomes in Parliament.
Mr. Natthaphong said he accepts all criticisms directed at the party and that he and his party have been making efforts to help the public understand the rationale behind their decision. He emphasized, “Whether we are a scaffold or not depends on our performance. If we fully carry out our duties as the opposition, that in itself proves the People’s Party is not a scaffold for the Bhumjaithai Party.”
He further added that the MOA between the People’s Party and Bhumjaithai contains several aspects that are positive for the country, such as moving forward with constitutional amendments. Overall, he believes things are progressing in a good direction, including the passing of important laws that benefit the people. He also pointed out that, in recent weeks, Parliament has been functioning more efficiently, for example, the passing of legislation regarding amnesty in land-related cases, as well as other long-awaited laws.
Mr. Natthaphong concluded by stating that these developments are proof that the People’s Party’s decisions were made to advance national agendas, drive constitutional reform, and pave the way toward dissolving Parliament.
