Today (April 9, 2026), US President Donald Trump stated that Lebanon will not be included in the US-Iran ceasefire accord. Meanwhile, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, claimed that Israel had violated multiple terms of the ceasefire by hitting Hezbollah in Lebanon.

“Now, the very ‘workable basis on which to negotiate’ has been openly and clearly violated, even before the negotiations began. In such a situation, a bilateral ceasefire or negotiations is unreasonable,” Ghalibaf wrote on X.

The US, on the other hand, insists that Iran abandon its nuclear program, claiming that a ceasefire or bilateral talks are "unreasonable" in the current circumstances. Ghalibaf claimed that the United States and Israel had breached the ceasefire agreement by continuing their attacks on Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who mediated between the two sides, and high-ranking officials acknowledged that the deal covers the entire region, including Lebanon, and that mediators will continue to work to keep it in place.

Furthermore, Trump declared on social media that US warships, fighter jets, weaponry, and military personnel will remain in the region until the ceasefire deal is fully executed. However, he expressed confidence that a long-term deal would be accomplished and followed.According to White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, regarding the 10-point agreement between the US and Iran, the US will remain focused on negotiations as long as the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

Meanwhile, Lebanese civil defense officials said that more than 254 people were killed in Israeli attacks across Lebanon on Wednesday. The Israeli attacks occurred without notice to locals to evacuate the region.

To prevent an intensification of the global energy crisis, the leaders of 13 European countries, as well as Japan and Canada, issued a joint statement calling for a ceasefire and a stop to violence.
