Today (April 9, 2026) at the Parliament building, Mr. Chaichana Dechdecho, a party-list MP and Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, spoke with the press about the government's oil imports. He claimed that the government had previously declared on March 24th that it had negotiated with Iran to allow two oil vessels owned by Bangchak and SCG Chemical to transit through the Strait of Hormuz, with an arrival in Thailand scheduled for April 6th.

Mr. Chaichana further indicated that his inquiry revealed that one of the tankers stopped in Singapore before entering Thailand, where about 70 billion liters of oil were unloaded from its original load of nearly 180 billion liters. This left only about 110 billion liters of oil upon arrival in Thailand.

While he understands that private companies can conduct business and sell oil on a global scale, the key point is that the government had previously announced it negotiated the entry of these two tankers into Thailand. He questioned why some of the oil had already been sold to another country and whether this was in accordance with the government's negotiated agreement. When the government negotiates, it should be clear whether all imported oil must enter Thailand. If some is sold to other nations, such as Singapore, this information should be made public in a transparent manner.

Finally, he urged the government to provide detailed information, particularly the actual amount of oil from the two ships and how much oil Thailand ultimately received.
