Today (23 Feb) 10:35 AM at the Royal Thai Air Force Headquarters, General Natthaphol Nakpanich, Minister of Defense, gave an interview regarding public suspicions about the spoon found in the cremated remains of Private Petcharat Kamlangying, a soldier from the 2nd Artillery Regiment, Royal Guard, Phrom Yothi, Prachinburi Province. He stated that the unit had reported no problems and was ready to provide explanations and cooperate with the investigation.
When asked if spoons were normally not allowed in detention cells, General Natthaphol replied that he did not know the details, but soldiers are generally permitted to carry personal spoons, and some units even carry both spoons and cups.

When asked whether a spoon could be used as a weapon to harm oneself while incarcerated, General Nattapol said that this matter needed to be investigated further with the relevant unit. He explained that initial reports indicated no problems, and medical examinations showed no internal injuries. He added that he would listen to the doctors' assessment, but if the family remained dissatisfied, he was ready for an investigation. He reiterated that he had emphasized this point, even though past military operations had received public praise. He noted that upon returning to regular units, many issues could arise that cause public unease. He urged the commanders of all branches of the armed forces to investigate these matters thoroughly, regardless of whether the individuals were soldiers, rangers, civil servants, or even sergeants. He stressed that even praise could be damaging if problems arose. He reiterated that investigations would be conducted, and any wrongdoing would be dealt with accordingly. Regarding allegations of torture, he stressed that subordinates must be considerate of their superiors; otherwise, the superiors would be unable to explain themselves to the public. He reiterated that the matter would be handled according to the law and that further investigation was possible if any doubts arose.
