Mr. Panidol Patchimsawat, Acting Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, briefed the media on the ongoing violence in the Middle East. He also noted reports that the United States is planning to send more troops to the Middle East to improve operational effectiveness.
He noted that due to the high level of uncertainty, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes the significance of Thais fleeing unsafe places as soon as possible and regularly watching official news and advisory channels. Regarding Thai help in Oman and Iran, the status of the Mayuri Nari's three crew members has yet to be confirmed.
The airplane carrying the bodies of Thai workers killed by shrapnel in Israel was slated to arrive in Thailand this morning but was cancelled owing to unforeseen circumstances. The Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv continues to work closely with appropriate agencies and airlines. A new date and flight schedule for the repatriation of the remains to Thailand will be revealed later.
Regarding Iran and Turkey, eight Thais, including seven students and their families, as well as one fisherman, crossed the border into Turkey yesterday and will depart Istanbul on March 28th to return to Thailand. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has supported the evacuation of 1,499 Thai citizens from Middle Eastern countries to Thailand or a third country. He emphasized the Thai government's commitment to assisting Thais in the Middle East affected by the war in safely evacuating risky locations.
