Today (8 April) at 10:50 AM, at the front of the Royal Thai Army Headquarters, Mr. Mongkolkitt Suksintharanon, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Network Foundation, submitted a letter to the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army regarding the government's handling of several issues, including the economy, people's livelihoods, and national security. The letter, addressed to General Phana Klaewplodthuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, requested consideration of declaring martial law under the Martial Law Act of 1914, citing severe economic problems facing the country, including rising oil and commodity prices, impacting a wide range of citizens, including military personnel and their families.

Mr. Mongkolkitt stated that he had received information that the commanders of the armed forces and the National Police Chief are currently discussing the necessity of using such legislation, viewing the current situation as akin to a state of war that is severely impacting Thailand. Failure to act quickly could cause significant damage to the country's economy.

Mr. Mongkolkitt said that if high energy prices continue, it could lead to a rapid increase in the cost of living for citizens, including food, transportation, and consumer goods, potentially affecting the overall economy. He also suggested that the military consider the possibility of declaring martial law to temporarily take control of the six oil refineries in the country. The officer on duty received the letter to proceed with the necessary procedures and submit the matter to the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army for further information.
