Today (April 20, 2026) at 09:15 AM, at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi, Mr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), discussed the PM 2.5 crisis management. Regarding low-cost "Dust-Free Rooms," he stated the government supports all sectors as the public’s suffering cannot wait. Whether from political parties or academic institutions like Chiang Mai University—which has installed over 1,000 units—he emphasized that these collaborative efforts are commendable.
On the budget for large-scale implementation, Mr. Yodchanan noted that many agencies already have allocated funds. He suggested prioritizing these by redirecting budgets from non-urgent projects to emergency relief, noting that ministries have oversight mechanisms ready for this purpose.
Mr. Yodchanan added that while dust-free rooms or positive pressure systems address the "tail-end" of the problem, they are essential alongside root-cause solutions. He is working with scientists to integrate agricultural burning controls, proper fertilizer use, EV promotion, and in-depth weather analysis.
"We must use scientific tools for immediate analysis of dust sources in each area. This data will guide precise and sustainable policy design. We have discussed these details intensely to provide clear answers to the public," said Mr. Yodchanan.
In closing, Mr. Yodchanan encouraged all agencies and confirmed that his field visits and discussions are regularly reported to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. He noted that other Cabinet members are also currently visiting various areas to monitor the situation and provide full support to the citizens.
