Today (April 20, 2026) at 10:10 AM, at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, delivered the policy guidelines for the Fiscal Year 2027 budget. He emphasized the high volatility of the current global situation, citing geopolitical tensions and the energy crisis. Consequently, the government must entirely transform its budget management approach under the "Zero-based Budgeting" principle to ensure maximum efficiency in public spending amidst fiscal constraints.
With the FY2027 budget capped at 3.788 trillion baht—a marginal 0.2% increase—the Prime Minister outlined several "strict rules" for government agencies:

Eliminating Wasteful Spending: Significant reductions in non-essential expenditures, such as overseas travel for study tours. New office constructions are to be halted in favor of leasing or Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).
Prioritizing Maintenance over Construction: Agencies are instructed to focus on maintaining existing infrastructure for the next 1-2 years rather than launching new large-scale projects, ensuring long-term fiscal stability.

Transitioning to Green Energy: To mitigate fluctuating global oil prices, the government will accelerate the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the public sector and push for solar rooftop installations in government buildings.
"The 2027 budget is more than just an administrative tool; it is a 'Crisis Management Mechanism' designed to keep Thailand competitive. Every single baht must yield maximum benefit for our citizens and long-term national sustainability," stated Mr. Anutin.
In closing, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the need for transparency and anti-corruption through inter-agency data integration, ensuring the budget aligns with core policies on economic security, social welfare, and environmental protection.
