Today (April 21, 2026) at 1:30 PM at the Government House, Ms. Rachada Dhnadirek, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Cabinet has approved the principle of establishing the "Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund." This initiative follows challenges in the current legal framework that have hindered efficient disaster management and the timely allocation of relief funds.

Ms. Rachada stated that the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act B.E. 2550 (2007) will be amended to ensure that assistance and rehabilitation for victims are effective and continuous. Although this 18-year-old Act is the primary instrument for state disaster management, the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters have outpaced current budgetary processes. The new fund will serve as a dedicated financial source, streamlining disbursement procedures and ensuring rapid financial support for those affected.

“Regarding the recent floods in eight southern provinces, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has been processing funeral expenses for victims of last year's floods. However, some cases remain unresolved where bodies have not been recovered or relatives have yet to agree on a recipient. While the original deadline for these payments was in March, the government has extended the period to June 8, 2026, to ensure all affected families are supported. We urge the families of the deceased to contact their provincial DDPM offices immediately,” Ms. Rachada added.
