Today (April 23, 2026) at 2:35 PM at Government House, Mr. Wanmuhamadnor Matha, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Prachachart Party and Advisor to the Prime Minister, stated before meeting with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the Minister of Interior at Thai Khu Fah Building that he was there to report his appointment as an advisor to the Prime Minister and to see what policies the Prime Minister would implement and what tasks he would be assigned. He also thanked the Prime Minister for inspecting government operations in the southern region and for emphasizing the investigation into the shooting of Mr. Kamolsak Leewamoh, a Prachachart Party MP from Narathiwat. He noted that the suspects who were issued arrest warrants were finally apprehended yesterday. From now on, it's up to the police to investigate further to find out who the mastermind or person who hired them is.

Because Mr. Kamolsak didn't know any of the five people arrested, there must be someone behind the hiring. As a citizen and former Member of Parliament, I would like to thank all the police units involved, including the Narathiwat Provincial Police, Police Region 9, and most importantly, the National Police Chief, who assigned a highly skilled officer, Police General Samran Nualma, Deputy National Police Chief, to oversee this case. This led to the arrest of all the suspects and the collection of complete forensic evidence, including the vehicle dismantled and used in the crime, as well as other relatively comprehensive evidence.

When asked whether the motive for the hiring had been identified, Mr. Wanmuhamadnor stated that this is a matter for the police to investigate further, and he believes it won't be difficult because the police have gathered complete evidence. He commended the police for their swift work and the collection of complete forensic evidence, including the gun, the vehicle, and the perpetrators, who have already confessed initially. From now on, it's a matter of identifying the person who hired or masterminded the crime and their motive.

If the mastermind cannot be identified, then it is the responsibility of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) because the vehicle belongs to ISOC. I want to be confident that the motive is not related to national security; ISOC would not do anything wrong. There must be someone who hired them and some accomplices. There might be some individuals within ISOC involved; otherwise, ISOC vehicles wouldn't be able to leave. Therefore, if all the masterminds are arrested, the matter will end well. The public will have confidence in government agencies and organizations.

Regarding whether the arrest of all suspects will help reduce tension in the three southern border provinces and the impact of the 4th Army Region Commander's meeting with the Chularajmontri (Chief Islamic Religious Leader), Mr. Wanmuhamadnor stated that the case of the shooting of Mr. Kamolsak is another matter. The 4th Army Region Commander's comments may cause misunderstandings within the associations of Islamic boarding schools (Pondok), private Islamic schools, and Tadika schools. Currently, the Prime Minister has assigned the Ministry of Education to investigate the facts and resolve the issue because this is a major problem concerning education, traditions, and culture in the area.

If it is not properly resolved, the problems will affect everyone in the short and long term. I believe everyone must cooperate to solve the problems in the South as much as possible. When asked how he would use his experience in the area to advise the Prime Minister on solving the problems, Mr. Wanmuhamadnor said that addressing the problems in the three southern border provinces is not just his responsibility but everyone's, including the Ministry of Education, local MPs, and various agencies, especially the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC), which is responsible for developing the area. He emphasized that if the area remains unstable and unsafe, development will be difficult, and investment may be discouraged. Therefore, it is necessary to follow the royal guidance of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), which the Prime Minister has already stressed: understanding, accessibility, and development. He stated that this is the best approach for resolving the problems in the southern border provinces.

Will the investigation into the attempted assassination of the MP be dropped? Mr. Wanmuhamadnor said he is confident because of the strong efforts made since the beginning. He could not elaborate much because the case has not yet reached a conclusion regarding the arrest of individuals, but he has begun gathering evidence. He also thanked the Prime Minister for emphasizing that the matter must be handled according to the law to reassure the public. He believes that no one can escape punishment for their crimes and that this is the correct approach for the government as the law enforcement body. This law must apply to everyone and every agency. I am pleased to see the Prime Minister's commitment to this work and many other matters. We are now entering an era where we must abide by the law.

When asked whether the National Security Council's (NSC) resolution today, which mentioned cooperation with Malaysia to persuade them to participate in development in the area, could be a way to solve the problems in the region, Mr. Wanmuhamadnor said that Malaysia is a neighbor, one that doesn't cause many problems, and is ready to help. The Prime Minister has previously stated that the drug problem must be solved, especially if it affects the problems in the area. The Prime Minister has emphasized the need to resolve the drug problem because it impacts the people and the economy.
