Today (28 April 2026), 2:00 PM at Government House, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced the results of the Cabinet meeting. She stated that the Cabinet acknowledged the recommendations for preventing corruption risks in the issuance of hotel business licenses in Thailand, as proposed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). The Ministry of Interior was assigned as the lead agency to consider this matter in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC), the Office of the Council of State, the Royal Thai Police, and other relevant agencies to reach a conclusion. The Ministry of Interior is to summarize the results of the consideration, the implementation, and the overall opinions. The document will then be submitted to the Cabinet Secretariat within 30 days of receiving notification from the Cabinet Secretariat for presentation to the Cabinet.
Ms. Ploytalay further stated that the key points are that the Ministry of Interior must expedite the improvement of the licensing process to make it transparent and faster, reduce steps, minimize the discretion of officials, and incorporate technology such as checklists and a one-stop service system. She also emphasized the need for channels for reporting irregularities, monitoring officials, and rigorously punishing those who accept bribes. In the long term, a review of the licensing system will be considered to reduce the burden on hotel operators, especially small ones, and enhance Thailand's tourism capabilities.
