Today (7 May 2026) at 10:40 AM at Military Airport 2, Wing 6, Don Mueang Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul Prime Minister and Minister of Interior gave an interview before departing for the Republic of the Philippines to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit from May 7 to 9, 2026. Regarding his expectations for the summit, he stated that he has high expectations for everything and will do something beneficial for Thailand.

When asked about Thailand's goals for using this platform, Mr. Anutin replied, "I'll print and distribute the details later. This trip is definitely not for leisure or to meet leaders out of affection but for work, negotiations, discussions, and to state Thailand's position, as well as to inform the ASEAN community about the situation, policies, and what Thailand will do."

When asked if there would be an opportunity to meet with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the meeting and what Thailand had prepared to communicate, Mr. Anutin said that they would meet, but probably not one-on-one. The Philippines, as the chair, has arranged a section for this, which he understands, as they likely want a positive atmosphere at the ASEAN summit. They are trying to arrange a face-to-face meeting beforehand. He added, however, that there was no need to worry. He has been in the position of prime minister and has managed the Thai-Cambodian situation continuously since his first day in office, even before his time as minister of interior. Therefore, people know that he will always stand by principles and discussions that are beneficial and uphold Thailand's sovereignty and the interests of the Thai people. There is no need to worry about this.

When pressed further on whether he was discouraged by the attacks and scrutiny he is facing due to the situation, Mr. Anutin replied, "Why should I be discouraged? I am Chinese; peaches are auspicious. I eat them on my birthday."
