"8 Months Over: Thaksin Returns" Home at Baan Chan Song La, Likening Time Away to '8 Months of Meditation'

Today (May 11, 2026) — At 9:00 AM, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra arrived at his Baan Chan Song La residence, where a crowd of Red Shirt supporters from all 50 districts of Bangkok had gathered to welcome him.

Upon arrival, the vehicle came to a halt and the windows were lowered. Mr. Thaksin leaned out to receive wais and wave to the crowd with a joyful and happy expression. He was accompanied by his daughter, former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was seated beside him.

When reporters asked if he was happy to be home, Mr. Thaksin replied, "I have been in a spiritual retreat (meditation) for 8 months." Meanwhile, when asked by the media how he felt after being released, Mr. Thaksin raised both hands above his head and said, "Relief."
