Today (20 October 2026), at 12:15 PM, at Government House, Minister of Defence Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen spoke to reporters following a Cabinet meeting. Addressing the opposition’s planned no-confidence motion and whether he was concerned about potential specific scrutiny regarding the Ministry of Defence’s operations he reiterated that a no-confidence debate is a standard mechanism within the parliamentary system. As the Ministry of Defence is a security-related agency, it is essential to foster public confidence by ensuring that its administration remains transparent and open to oversight.
Lieutenant General Adul stated that he is not concerned about the no-confidence debate, as the Ministry of Defence operates in full compliance with all laws and regulations. He affirmed his readiness to respond to any issue based on existing facts and evidence. Should the opposition raise specific points, his team will prepare the necessary information; there is nothing to be concerned about, and the Ministry’s transparency ensures that its actions can be scrutinised.
Regarding the administration and structure of the armed forces. Regarding the submarine procurement project which may be brought up for discussion again as well as the frigate procurement project, Lieutenant General Adul stated that these matters must be examined based on the facts and evidence. Since these events took place before he assumed his current position, he will need to review the existing documentation and evidence, affirming that he will provide responses grounded in those facts.

As for the possibility that the opposition might raise the issue of the southern border provinces during a no-confidence motion, Lieutenant General Adul noted that any topic can be discussed. In his capacity as a special representative of the government, he welcomes such scrutiny, viewing it as a positive step toward greater transparency and accountability. He urged the opposition, however, to base their enquiries on facts rather than resorting to slander or smear tactics, which he described as unconstructive. He remains prepared to address any questions with factual information.
Addressing allegations of political favouritism including suggestions of a potential link to Mr Newin Chidchob Lieutenant General Adul invited the opposition to present their questions. He expressed no concern, noting that throughout his entire career in public service, he has never faced complaints, investigations, or any professional issues. He added, with a touch of levity, that during the current post-Lent period (“Ok Phansa”), it is only natural for monks to receive “kathin” (robe-offering) donations implying that such associations are simply a normal part of life.
Regarding the Ministry of Defence’s order appointing Air Chief Marshal Praphas Sonjaidee as the new head of the Defence Minister’s working committee and whether this move was specifically intended to prepare for a no-confidence motion Lieutenant General Adul stated that it was not the case. He will be the one to field questions, though internal discussions among the team will be necessary; he further emphasised that there is no cause for concern.
When asked whether an additional working group would be appointed to prepare for the no-confidence motion, Lt. Gen. Adul stated that he would be the sole person responsible for answering questions.
