Today (3 November 2026) at 11:30 AM at Monthathip Hall International Convention Center, Udon Thani Province, Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES), spoke to the press regarding reports that Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, received an alert suggesting his mobile phone may have been compromised by “Pegasus” spyware. Mr. Chaichanok clarified that, based on his review of the news, Mr. Abhisit did not specifically identify the software as “Pegasus,” but rather mentioned the presence of “malware.” He noted that Apple has issued a statement regarding hacking incidents affecting users in 99 countries, without specifying whether “Pegasus” or any other particular software was involved.
Mr. Chaichanok added that if Mr. Abhisit wishes to cooperate, his ministry is prepared to assist, as the matter is considered significant. He noted that the issue will be raised during a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) tomorrow (4 November 2026), and that any further information uncovered could prove beneficial to the public.
When asked about the case involving Mr. Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the People’s Party, regarding reports of spyware alerts similar to the one received by Mr. Abhisit and whether the two cases might be connected, Mr. Chaichanok stated that everyone should exercise caution. He noted that this serves as a cautionary tale for the general public, as malware can infiltrate devices in various ways. Users should be particularly careful when connecting to public Wi-Fi, hotspots, having devices repaired at untrustworthy shops, or clicking on links and pop-up advertisements.
When asked about potential preventive measures, Mr. Chaichanok explained that the matter will be brought up as a key agenda item at the National Security Council (NSC) meeting tomorrow (4 November 2026). Specific measures will be determined after consulting with relevant agencies. He added that the situation is being continuously monitored, noting that this is a global issue and that they are currently in contact with Apple to obtain further information.
Addressing the recent rise in cyberattacks across various countries, Mr. Chaichanok confirmed that Thailand is actively preparing its response. He reiterated that the situation is being closely tracked, with efforts underway to coordinate with experts—including major technology corporations and nations with extensive experience in cybersecurity. In the meantime, he urged the public to regularly update their passwords, exercise caution when connecting to public or unsecured networks, and avoid clicking on advertisements or suspicious links.
