Today (3 November 2026) at 8:30 AM at Udon Thani Province, a group including the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (NSPRT), led by Mr. Pichit Chaimongkol and Mr. Nasser Yee-ma, alongside local conservationists and community members, gathered to protest the potash mining project in Udon Thani. They prepared a letter addressed to Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, requesting that the government review the project. The group emphasized the need to consider the potential impact on the environment and the livelihoods of local residents, while insisting that the process be conducted with caution, transparency, and meaningful public participation.
Subsequently, ten representatives from the group marched from the Udon Thani railway station to the Monthathip Hall International Convention Center, where the mobile Cabinet meeting was being held. Udon Thani provincial police were deployed in the surrounding area to maintain security.

Upon the arrival of the representatives, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Industry, stepped out to receive the letter in person. The group’s representatives urged the Ministry of Industry to take the lead in presenting their proposals to the Cabinet for consideration. They also requested that the government review the potash mining projects in Udon Thani and Buriram provinces, citing concerns that these projects could negatively impact the environment, natural resources, and the livelihoods of local residents.
In response, Mr. Varawut stated that he would bring these demands to the Cabinet meeting. He affirmed that if the public is suffering, the government stands ready to provide assistance and fully mitigate any adverse effects. Furthermore, Mr. Varawut advised the representatives to communicate with the local community, encouraging residents to clearly articulate their positions and firmly voice their concerns, especially during any public hearings or consultations regarding the projects.
Reporters noted that after receiving the petition, Mr. Varawut embraced one of the villagers who had come to submit the demands, promising to do his utmost to address the hardships faced by the people.
