October 3, 2025, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior,   delivered a special speech at the Sustainability Expo 2025: A Call for Adaptation: The Sustainability in Trade & Industry conference. He recommended extending the retirement age to 65, noting a changing socioeconomic environment in which people are living lives that are both healthier and longer.   Therefore, this age adjustment tries to prevent future unemployment.   He went on to say that this idea is not new, as court and prosecutor professionals retire at the age of 65 to 70.   Even if governmental servants retire at age 60, the government will cover the costs of retirement, pensions, and medical care.   However, He highlighted that this is merely a notion and will not occur anytime soon.   It demands more discussion and clarity from all sides.

Next, the issue of Cambodians being evacuated from Ban Nong Chan, Sa Kaeo Province, was then considered, with an October 10th deadline.   Cambodian media recently indicated that Cambodians will not leave the area.   Mr. Anutin explained that Ban Nong Chan is a territory of Thailand, so Thai operations must be carried out in compliance with Thai laws.   Non-Thai nationals are not permitted to violate Thai law, and certain rules must be followed.   If they are civilians, they should be handled differently.   We must avoid causing them discomfort.   We must use legal measures and engage in discourse as much as feasible.

He also noted that the October 10th date is only a timeline given by the Sa Kaeo Provincial Governor.   However, operations on this subject must be approached from multiple angles.   Border confrontations are currently the most dangerous threat, so we must be prepared.   The repatriation may be part of the talks.   Cambodia must identify a location to repatriate its citizens to their homeland.   We cannot construct new communities for them, but we must not exclude them.

Mr. Anutin stated that we must speed up compensation for individuals impacted by the border.   The Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has already announced that plans for this situation have been established.   As a result, his visit to Surin and Buriram provinces on October 3-4 was intended to monitor the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border, as well as to plan and examine the feasibility of border fence construction with relevant agencies.   He confirmed that compensation has been planned for people both directly and indirectly affected.

Finally, when it comes to the Thai economy's challenges for the coming year, Mr. Anutin noted that we must limit risks while also supporting and listening to the private sector in order to keep the baht stable, encourage exports and investment, and support local communities.
