On the night of October 15, 2025 (local time), Kim Ji-na, the Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, along with a government response team, arrived in Cambodia to collaborate with the Cambodian government in addressing the issue of criminal networks deceiving South Koreans into working overseas under false pretenses.

The government response team accompanying Kim Ji-na included officials from the National Police Agency, the Ministry of Justice, and the National Intelligence Service of South Korea.

Subsequently, on October 16, 2025, Kim Ji-na met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Government House to discuss cooperation in the investigation into the death of a 22-year-old South Korean student, as well as to outline plans for the repatriation of 61 South Koreans currently being detained by Cambodian immigration authorities.

The number of South Korean detainees in Cambodia has decreased from 63 to 61, as two individuals were repatriated to South Korea this past Tuesday.

South Korean police have pressed charges against the detainees involved in scam-related cases, while the Seoul government is actively working to bring them back home as soon as possible in order to proceed with legal action under South Korean law.

Wi Sung-lac, South Korea’s top national security adviser, stated that the government plans to repatriate the remaining South Koreans within this week.

Kim Ji-na also responded to reporters regarding the case of a 30-year-old South Korean woman whose body was found near the Cambodia-Vietnam border. She stated that the case is currently under joint investigation by Cambodian and Vietnamese authorities, and that officials are looking into her possible connection with a phishing scam in Cambodia.
