Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat as a new leader of Pheu Thai Part

On October 31, 2025, at the Pheu Thai Party headquarters, during the party’s first extraordinary general meeting of the year, members voted to elect Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat as the new party leader. He announced his commitment to “reform” the party, improving candidate selection, public communication, and policy direction.

Mr. Chulaphan, a party-list MP, was elected as the new leader of the Pheu Thai Party after Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra resigned from the position. He received 354 votes, with 15 abstentions out of 369 total votes.

“Today, my executive team and I would like to thank all members for entrusting us to drive the Pheu Thai Party forward. It is my greatest honor to serve in this position,” Mr. Chulaphan said.

The heart is the people

Mr. Chulapan stated that the new executive committee embodies the spirit of the Pheu Thai Party, the belief that good policies can truly solve people’s problems and must be practical and tangible.

He added, “The media and the public have signaled those Pheu Thai needs change, and I agree. The world changes every day, politics evolves constantly, and people’s needs keep shifting. Therefore, restructuring Pheu Thai is not an option, it’s a necessity.”

Communication – Candidates – Policy

The “reform” will focus on three key areas: public communication, candidate selection, and party policy.

The party will improve communication channels to engage with the public more effectively. For candidates, the focus will be on selecting high-quality individuals who align with the people’s needs. For policy, the party will revisit past successful initiatives that resonated with citizens.

Mr. Chulaphan expressed confidence that with the support of millions of Pheu Thai members and supporters, the party will achieve victory in the next general election and return to government.

“Let us all have faith in Pheu Thai and in the path we’ve chosen to lead Thailand toward success and a brighter future,” he said.

The 10,000-baht digital wallet – Pheu Thai’s unfinished mission

When asked about the 10,000-baht digital wallet policy, Mr. Chulaphan admitted, “We couldn’t fully implement it, given only two years in government and many obstacles. But we managed to carry it halfway, over 20 million people, especially vulnerable groups, have already received the money.”

He added that although the next government did not continue the policy, introducing other beneficial programs for the people was still positive.

“We still owe something to the people, and we will find new policies to make up for that,” he said.

“Bleeding” members and party challenges

Addressing reports of members leaving the party, Mr. Chulaphan said that the term “bleeding” was a media label. One major challenge for the party is nominating only one candidate per constituency, he explained.

“If the media followed all parties as closely as they follow Pheu Thai, they’d see that politicians switching parties is normal. Those who wished to leave have already done so, and at the same time, many new people are joining us every day. That shows growing faith in Pheu Thai. So, I don’t see this as a crisis or anything abnormal,” he said.

The Shinawatra family’s influence

When asked about the roles of Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra as a head of the Phue Thai family and himself as party leader, Mr. Chulaphan responded “Our bond with the Shinawatra family is emotional, a heartfelt connection. Ms. Paetongtarn’s role is one of inspiration and sentiment, while as party leader, I have full authority over party administration.”

He further noted, “This new executive team has no members of the Shinawatra family, representing a ‘blood transfusion’ to strengthen Pheu Thai as a political institution.”

Prime Minister candidates

When asked about potential prime ministerial candidates, he said, “We haven’t started discussing or finalizing that yet, it will take time. But I can confirm that Pheu Thai will nominate three candidates, as we always have. Even though we were once criticized for having ‘mystery box’ PM nominees, we will still present three candidates to the public.”

A party for all people

In closing, Mr. Chulaphan addressed Pheu Thai members: “Pheu Thai is not a party for just one generation. Everyone, young or old, will have the chance to express opinions and help shape policies that meet people’s needs. That’s what we, the new executive team, plan to move forward with, toward victory in the next election.”

“We have carried the hopes and faith of the people for a long time. More than 10 million Thais are ready to walk with us. I ask all members to have confidence that we will deliver policies that truly serve the people, improve communication, and select strong candidates. We will make Pheu Thai a genuine political institution that meets people’s needs, and I believe the people will respond positively in the next election.”
