“Supajee” Warns “Khon La Khrueng Plus” Merchants not to raise prices and VAT 7% — orders DIT to clarify rules for them

On November 4, 2025, at 9.25 a.m., at the Government House, Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun instructed relevant agencies to urgently clarify details of the “Khon La Khrueng Plus” co-payment program to participating merchants.

This comes after reports that some shops have raised product prices or added an extra 7% VAT when customers used the government subsidy.

Suphajee explained that such cases might result from misunderstandings, rather than intentional price increases. The “Khon La Khrueng Plus” co-payment program allows participation from both registered taxpayers and non-taxpayers, leading some non-VAT-registered merchants to mistakenly assume they need to charge an additional 7% tax.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas has therefore instructed the Department of Internal Trade and provincial commerce offices nationwide to visit local shops, clarify regulations, and ensure correct implementation of the scheme.

Suphajee also emphasized that her ministry continues working with local businesses and modern trade outlets to maintain affordable product prices. She added that this collaboration aims to maximize benefits for citizens using the “Khon La Khrueng Plus” co-payment program and enhance the value of the government welfare card for low-income earners.
