SAP NEWS

Before the flooding, 27 bodies were held in the hospital's mortuary. 14 people died in the floods between November 22 - 25, 2025 (mainly elderly and seriously ill patients), a mortality rate equivalent to that of a large central hospital. The hospital currently has 41 bodies in its refrigerated storage.

The hospital stressed that these bodies are being securely kept in its refrigerated storage facility, because of the love of the Hat Yai Hospital community. The current obstacle is communication issues induced by the disaster, which has disrupted water, electricity, and telephone services.

Mr. Patthana Promphat, Minister of Public Health, chaired a teleconference meeting with executives from the Southern area at the Public Health Operations Center. An update on the medical and public health situation in the southern region shows that flooding continues in numerous provinces, with water levels expected to remain high for another 2-3 days. Hat Yai Hospital's power system is operational, but unstable, necessitating the relocation of 89 critically ill patients to other bigger hospitals. Two field hospitals are now in operation: the Prince of Songkla University Field Hospital (50 beds) and the Hat Yai Airport Field Hospital (50 beds). The Hat Yai Ratchaprachasan School Shelter currently has 1,800 people living there.
