Ousted! Hat Yai district chief removed over flooding issue

On 26 November 2025, Naruecha Khosasivilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, signed an official order regarding the temporary assignment of civil servants for the benefit of the government service. As a result, Mr. Ek Yang-Apai Na Songkhla, the district chief (Senior Executive Director) of Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, was transferred to assist with duties at the College of Administration, Department of Provincial Administration.

After the transfer order was made public, the public raised concerns that the move may have stemmed from the failure to manage the flooding situation in Hat Yai, particularly the lack of preparedness and the inadequate assistance for residents who remain stranded in their homes.

However, part of the public has questioned whether this transfer unfairly places all the blame on a local official alone, instead of acknowledging shared responsibility with the central government. Flood preparedness and relief efforts, they argue, require coordination between the central government and local administrative officers.
