On January 25, 2026, Myanmar held the third-phrase general election, making this election to an end, anticipated that the USDP Party which was backed by the military will win after the results from two previous elections which they already swept 85% of all the seats in the parliament. The final results, including the votes in the last phrase, will be officially announced within this week.

Even though this election will be labeled as a Sham Election by the international community, the Junta have refused about these criticisms and affirms that this election was held free and fair.

BBC have observed this ongoing election mentioning that the election was held systemically and orderly which if we superficially look at it, it might look like the normal election. In fact, this election was held under the campaign that induced fear, intimidation, and a pervasive feeling that the final result is going to be the USDP Party and merely a thing can change from this election.

BBC team also stated that across their travel to observe this election, they always been under closely monitored by the dozens of policeman and military.

The environment which was cloaked with fear for over a month indicated the situation that Myanmar’s people cannot express any comments that are opposed to this election since they are afraid of the repercussions.

The process after the official announcement of the final outcome was laid in the military-drafted constitution in which the parliament meeting will be held within 2 months in order to choose the new president which expected that Min Aung Hlaing, the coup leader, will be chosen. This format is like the way to keep the old regime to be ongoing under the civilian clothes that came from the free and fair election. Nevertheless, when he steps into this role, he has to step down from command of the armed forces.

Many analysts pointed out that his replacement is certain to be a loyalist, but cannot reject the fact that his influence in the army will inevitably be reduced and it is no secret that many other senior officers do not perceive that he did a great job as a country’s leader.

When the political voice is extended, it has a possibility that it will lead to the argument over Myanmar's direction and the possibility that it will lead to an end of the ongoing and prolonged civil war.
