(SAP News - Punyaphon Rakcharoen)11th September 2025,11.00 am., Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, gave an interview about lawyers who filed an appeal with the Pheu Thai Party against the Prachachon and Bhumjaithai parties over the political agreement (MOA). He claimed that a MOA is a sort of mutual agreement that, while not legally binding, has a stronger emotional significance. So, every individual has the right to exercise it. He noted that it is reasonable for individuals to differ, despite the fact that the Pheu Thai Party had already confirmed its commitment to the People Party's MOA The petition highlights the fact that each political party has its own fan base and it is normal for people in society to hold opposing views.

According to the petition, signing the MOA indicates an overthrow of the democratic form of government, paving the way for the party's dissolution. Regarding whether the MOA signing will reach that stage, Mr. Siripong stated that there are no words or issues regarding the overthrow of the democratic system with the King as Head of State because everything is done in accordance with the procedures of the House of Representatives and there is no mention of anything prohibited by the Constitution, so it does not constitute an infringement on any organization.

Senators may disagree on the constitutional amendment and urge both the Bhumjaithai and People parties to think again. Mr. Siripong added that the Bhumjaithai Party advocated altering Section 256 of the Constitution during the reign of former PM Prayut Chan-o-cha, removing the Senate's ability to vote for the Prime Minister. However, the Senate declined to approve this idea. This shows that, no matter whether party's votes are sought, it is the viability of the idea that determines whether the Senate will adopt it. Furthermore, conversations with the People’s Party are required to find a common approach. If there are areas of dispute, the Bhumjaithai Party must gain enough votes to remain firm.

Regarding the election of the Constitutional Drafting Assembly (CDA), Mr. Siripong indicated that it is likely to be indirect, as the Constitutional Court has ruled that direct elections are not possible. He anticipated discussions on the selection of candidates and representatives this week. And emphasized that the Prime Minister's first priority is to address the people's livelihoods and to proceed with the dissolution of Parliament within four months as agreed.
Regarding the current Thai-Cambodian border issue, Mr. Siripong indicated that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has a clear policy of not opening the border crossing until Cambodia can return the border situation to normal in a short period of time. If Cambodia does not take steps to normal situation, the crossing will not be opened.
Finally, Mr. Siripong noted that this government outperformed the previous 2 years, especially the economic team. They are currently discussing and exchanging experiences in order to drive policy directions together. Since the government has only been in office for four months, they have a common purpose of solving economic problems rather than simply seeking political votes from one party as in the past.
