Today (April 24, 2026) at 2:08 PM at Government House, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul gave an interview regarding the progress of border fence construction. He stated that construction has begun on both the Thai-Malaysian and Thai-Cambodian borders. All necessary budgets have been allocated. The armed forces and relevant branches are responsible, such as the Royal Thai Navy, which is responsible for the eastern border area in Chanthaburi and Trat. The Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters is responsible for the border area from Sa Kaeo, Prachinburi, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. In the southern region, the 4th Army Area Command is responsible for constructing the fence along the Thai-Malaysian border to prevent smuggling of contraband, illegal immigration, and terrorist activities. "Everything is currently in progress, and the budget has been allocated," Mr. Anutin said.
He added, "The initial budget has been finalized. For the remaining areas outside of the first phase, yesterday (April 23, 2026), at the National Security Council (NSC) meeting, each agency was instructed to submit proposals for funding from their regular budgets. If the regular budget is insufficient, central government funds will be allocated. Therefore, regarding the border fence, CCTV system, and other systems, I would like the media to inform the public that these projects have already begun." When asked about the timeframe for the first phase, Mr. Anutin stated, "We have the figures clearly defined: how many kilometers will be constructed in total, how many will be started, and how long it will take to complete it. We cannot start the fence, then stop, pause, and then resume construction. If that happens, it will be ineffective. All of this must be a continuous project that maximizes benefits and ensures border security for Thailand."
