(SAP News - Teeravoot Sion) On 10th September 2025, US President Donald Trump called for the death penalty for the murder suspect Carlos Brown Jr after killing a young Ukrainian woman on a Charlotte light train, awakening the race and ethics equality on social media.

The 23-year-old victim is Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee, who fled from her country during the war in Ukraine. While she took the Blue line light train in Charlotte, North Carolina, last 22nd August she was abused by the perpetrator.

The footage was released last Friday (5th Sep), showing that Zarutska   looked at her phone, unaware of the danger behind her.

Just a few minutes, 34-year-old Carlos Brown Jr. allegedly whipped out a folding knife 3 into her neck, stabbing three times, before she grabbed her neck, which was bleeding, then she was unconscious on the seat and died at the end, police said.

The police officer said Brown got off the train at the next stop, abandoning his knife near the platform. He was treated at the hospital for a cut on his hand before being taken into custody on a murder charge.

"The ANIMAL who so violently killed the beautiful young lady from Ukraine, who came to America searching for peace and safety, should be given a ‘Quick’ (there is no doubt!) Trial, and only awarded THE DEATH PENALTY," Trump posted on Truth Social.

Trump also blamed Former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, saying his failure to prevent residents and justification, and this homicide happened in one of the Democratic party base cities.

Other Republicans are also using this homicide to criticize the Democrat initiatives   aimed at tackling discrimination within the law enforcement and criminal justice system, which Cooper signed the executive order in 2020 to study solutions to “address racial inequity.”
